My wife and I were visiting from Wisconsin. Overall, the food in Maui is amazing, but…. the meal we had at South Maui Fishing Company was the best meal of my life! Nothing else compared to the experience we had here and we went to all of the high rated restaurants. We split the poke and tacos(with fresh caught Blue Marlin) and I don’t know which I liked more. If there were not so many things to explore and experience in Maui I would have ate here every day I was on the island. Thank you and we will be back someday!!
Update (Dec 2023): Still amazing! Great friendly service even despite sometimes long lines. Grilled fish for tacos is the best. Special mac was amazing. Love it! Original (Nov 2020): What a treat! Delicious fish from a good truck in a cozy courtyard right on Kihei Rd. Super chill, friendly staff, taking orders and grilling fresh fish right out in the courtyard. Dishes are classic island fare with a creative twist. A must try in Maui!
Spicy poke was excellent. Definitely had some kick to it! So if you aren’t sure if it’s going to be too spicy go traditional! The service was friendly and food came out quick. The pineapple slaw was a super good side for the spicy poke. Seating was limited but people seemed to be in and out quick so you won’t have to wait long!
We stopped here on our first day in Maui. We were lucky not to see a line. But we were told they close when they run out of fish everyday - not at 8 pm as the site says. Ordered mixed poke, fish tacos and fish plate. Huge fillet of fish in each taco. Neat little place to sit near the truck and eat. My favorite was their spicy poke and their special tacos.
Fish tacos were SO good with fresh pineapple and just the right amount of seasoning. They give you a huge amount of fish too. Some of the best I’ve ever had. The poke was great too. Not the best I’ve ever had but good spice to it. The service was also great and super friendly. Little truck in the middle of a court with a few vendors including shave ice, a smoke shop, and a kava bar. Easy for kids to run around.
The traditional and spicy poke both were excellent! ???? It was super fresh and had great flavors! The staff was super friendly and you could tell they love what they do. This is a great option if you're looking for poke!
Worth the wait! We arrived on a Friday at 12:30 and there was a large line (which usually is a good sign). We waited for about 15-20 mins in the shade to order. The people in front of us said they come everyday every time they are in town. The staff were very nice and the fish was so fresh and so flavorful. We will definitely be back! DO NOT MISS THIS SPOT!
Parking was a bit tight in the back, but the food truck was right in the middle of a cute little plaza. Service was amazing! Loved hearing their story and wanted to support local. Poké was super fresh and tasty, but the grilled ahi belly was a bit too overcooked and dry for my taste! Will definitely come back again for more!!
The fish Tacos were the BEST I have ever had!!! So far, best food we have had in Maui!! I have never had poke bowls before but let me tell you they were awesome! My daughter eats them a lot and she said they were the best she's had! This is a food truck, but don't let that scare you from thinking their food may not be as good as a fancy restaurant.... I would rather eat here!! They told me owner was from Tyler only 45 minutes from my house, that's crazy! In Maui... eat South Maui Fish Co!!!!
can't go wrong with either fish tacos or poke. had to visit twice on our trip to make sure we ate both!
